An Iranian Intifada

Ahmadinajad owes the Iranian opposition big. In fact, all Iranians, even those who disagree with Mousavi's supporters, should be grateful that they exist, that they are loud, and that they are pouring into the streets of Tehran.

Because it is this green opposition which is protecting Iran from Israel and those in the US itching to bomb. Yes, these women and men are the human shield that can protect Iranians better than any nuclear arsenal can. They also expose the neocon doctrine of regime change as farcical for they demonstrate that change comes from within. Read More.

"Nor Gourmets in Gaza"

A good article by Alex Renton about the blockade on Gaza. He rightly uses words like "prison camp" and "ghetto."

Ragheb 'Alama's New Look

Lebanese Singer Ragheb 'Alama sporting a Koufeyeh. What do you think?

Why Didn't He Knock on the Walls of the Van?

Ghassan Kanafani's Men in the Sun continues to be relevant, not only to Palestinians, but also to Australian Aboriginals.

Barak Obama and the Veil

World leaders are talking about Muslim women again. First, it was Barak Obama, and now it's Mu'ammar Al Qadhafi.

Let's begin with Al Qadhafi. On his historic visit to Italy, the Libyan leader asked that 700 Italian women, leaders in the economic, cultural, and political fields, be assembled to hear his speech. They did. During his speech, he told them that Arab women have no rights, that they are treated like pieces of furniture, and the situation is so terrible there is a need for a revolution.

I appreciate the fact that Al Qadhafi wants to champion Arab women's rights. But how is dissing Arab women in front of a crowd of accomplished Italian women help further the cause? Read More.

Testimonies of Israeli Soldiers About Gaza Attack

"The worst beatings were in the bathrooms, he said. "The soldiers who took [detainees] to the toilet just exploded [over] them with beatings; cursed them with no reason. When they took one Arab to the toilet so that he could urinate, one of them gave him a slap that brought him to the ground. He had been handcuffed from behind with a nylon restraint and blindfolded. He wasn't insolent, he didn't do anything to get on anyone's nerves ... [it was] just because he's an Arab. He was something like 15 years old."

No Sports for Saudi Girls

Hassiba Boulmerka: Algeria

The first Saudi women minister, Noura al Fayez, who is responsible for Girls' Education, is against Saudi girls playing sports in school. According to her, it's too early for that.

I think she should be the minister of Snail Affairs.

The Name Game

"El Al passengers have received maps of Israel marking out a "separation wall" along the West Bank, but the Foreign Ministry has asked the airline to change the classification to "security fence," Haaretz has learned. New maps are to be distributed soon."

Israeli Group Protests Obama With this Poster

"This is an exercise in colonialism"

This is what Pink Floyd's Roger Waters said of the apartheid wall in the West Bank. He also said:

"People who haven't actually seen this, what's going on here, can't imagine the impression that it has on you, the sick, kind of churning feeling that you get in your very heart when you see this, how depressing it is."

He rejected Israel's security argument:

"If that was the sole reason, what's it doing in the occupied territories, surrounding settlements and cutting [Palestinian] farmers off from their olive trees and so on and so forth?"

"When you stand in front of an edifice like this, whether it's here or outside a township in South Africa, or in the Warsaw Ghetto during the Second World War, or in Berlin in the 60s and 70s, it's something you know instinctively that this is wrong. It's a bad thing."

Roger Waters rocks!!

Madonna! Are you listening?

When a Man Chops Off His Penis

A man falls in love with a woman. He comes from a prominent family. She is poor. He wants to marry her anyway. But his father says no way. He tries hard to convince his dad, but the father insists.

The man chops off his penis. (for more gory details read here).

Settlements Grew After Oslo

Every time Israel says it was interested in peace, that it entered the Oslo agreements with the intention of establishing a Palestinian state, remember this:

"one third of Israelis living in the territories (not including East Jerusalem) settled there during the Oslo years and another third after the peace process was suspended...As for East Jerusalem, 45 percent of Israelis living in East Jerusalem moved there after the Oslo agreement. "

And shadow of doubt that Israel used the "Peace Process" to colonize more Palestinian land? Just the way it uses "war" to do the same thing.

Will Obama be able to stop them?

They will stop him.

Haifa Wehbe, the Sheikhs, and Divine Wrath

Fearful of what they call "Divine wrath," a group of Azhar Sheikhs addressed a letter to President Mubarak of Egypt, asking him to intervene to prevent the showing of the film "Dukkan Shehata," (Shehata's Store) starring Haifa Wehbe.

According to them, the Muslim Ummah is in danger because of a shot showing Wehbe in a mosque. Is the Muslim Ummah so fragile that a song from Haifa would bring it down? Aren't there other injustices in Egypt and the Arab world that warrant the "Divine Wrath" they are fearing more than someone with a bad voice? How about those beheaded kids in Gaza? Didn't they warrant some divine wrath, or at least a letter to the President?

Apparently not.

The funny part is that in their letter, the good Sheikhs give such a detailed description of Haifa's singing and dancing that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are ...humm... fans.

That calls for some serious "Divine Wrath."
